- RHETORIC G&S MAIN BLOG
- ABOUTI own and manage the gendersex.net domain name and use it for two main purposes: to provide general resources on the study of gender and sexuality and to provide specific resources for my WRTG 3020 classes at CU Boulder, which focus on the topic of “The Rhetoric of Gender and Sexuality.” You can read more about these two purposes below. Most of the materials on the site are visible to all viewers, but some material is restricted only to users who are logged into their gendersex.net accounts, such as articles subject to copyright or conversations among students that are of a personal nature. RESOURCES FOR GENDER AND SEXUALITY STUDIES The primary audience for materials on the main Rhetoric of Gender & Sexuality site includes scholars and students in the fields of gender studies and LGBT studies, as well as anyone interested in learning more about these fields. The primary purpose of the site is to provide resources for investigating issues such as the origins of gender identity, the impact of a binary model of gender, and the nature of sexual orientation. The collection includes links to relevant web sites, a main blog with posts in a variety of categories, and…

Cosmopolitan is a magazine for women, however almost everything on the cover deals with men. Most of the big stories are how to please a man. I think this cover shows how women are merely objects to men and our only job is to please them. Instead of competeing with them in the corporate world we should merely sit at home read these types of magazines and expand our knowledge in ways that will benefit them. The story of the date-rape trap is in s small font in a corner. Date-rapes occur more often then we would like to think and you would think this story would be in big bold font to help warn women but instead what sex is like for him and what his secret pleasure zone is more imprtant than avoiding a date-rape scenario.

Response:
(1) What is the surface meaning of the ad?
It’s a fit woman with a short skirt on at a metro station with an approaching trolley, with relatively clear skies and presumably enjoyable weather.
(2) What is the advertiser’s intended meaning?
The intended meaning is that in “a better world” attractive and accessible woman would be everywhere, and there would be no rainy days.
(3) What is the cultural or ideological meaning of the ad?
The short skirt has sections designed to be torn off, that have her phone number printed on them. This relates advertisements and fliers to the audience, suggesting that all one has to do to get access to the woman is tear off a tab of her skirt, and call her to set up a date. The fact that “My Number” is written on the back of her skirt draws attention to her rear. And the approaching trolley presumably contains multiple men who will capitalize on her offer. Thus suggesting that women are objects to serve men, and in “a perfect world,” attractive women could be picked up as casually as browsing ads and fliers on bulletin boards.
